OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO COMMUNITY SERVICE

Murali Krishnamurthy, Co Founder Sankara Eye Foundation

Murali Krishnamurthy, an IT Professional based in the Silicon Valley, co-founded Sankara Eye Foundation, USA (SEF) in 1998.

At that time, SEF was performing around 8,000 FREE Eye Surgeries per year and they were running one Sankara Eye Hospital (SEH) in Coimbatore with 100 beds. Thanks to Murali's leadership and enthusiastic support of Indians all over the USA, SES has progressed phenomenally - from 8,000 FREE Eye Surgeries to close to 58,000 FREE Eye Surgeries in 2006 at our three SEHs in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. SEF is now constructing three more SEHs in Bangalore (will also serve as our National Training Center), Shimoga (Karnataka) and Anand (Gujarat). The Bangalore Hospital is being inaugurated on January 20, 2008, and the Shimoga and Anand Hospitals will be ready by mid-2008. With these six SEHs, SEF is looking at performing over 100,000 FREE Eye Surgeries in 2009 and our Goal is to scale it up to one million FREE Eye Surgeries per year by 2020 - Vision 20/20 by 2020. SEF is one of the fastest growing Indian Charities in the USA with over 300 volunteers, 25,000 + donors with a projected revenue of over $3M this year and with a big vision - Vision 20/20 by 2020.

Murali is also one of the founders of the bay area multi-lingual Light Music Group Pallavi and we have performed in over 30 fundraisers so far and at least two of them were for Sankara Eye Foundation

Murali is committed to eradicating curable blindness in India by the year 2020 – Vision 20/20 by 2020
